Use the book (Health Information Exchange: Navigating and Managing a Network of Health Information Systems). For this discussion, After reading through Chapter 7, please make an initial post describingthe importance of interoperability concerning infrastructure. Be sure and include how the multiple layers of interoperability interact as well. Your answers should be detailed with outside references […]

Importance of Interoperability in Relation to Infrastructure

Due to rapid technological advancement taking place in the contemporary business world, people make use of various networks to connect, both personally and professionally. Enhanced connections among system players stimulate productivity as people share ideas more easily within a short period. To improve interaction among key stakeholders, organizations leverage internet-of-things infrastructures that encompass interconnection computing devices enabling them to send and receive data via the internet (Pronovost, 2018). Such structures are designed to allow different systems and devices to exchange and interpret data in ways that can be understood by users who interact with different information systems, such as nurses and IT specialists (Dixon, 2016, p. 24). In the public sector, interoperability enhances the development of infrastructural designs that accommodate information and service harvesting, sharing, dissemination, and preservation. As a result, the public sector creates an interoperable infrastructure that effectively addresses human needs despite changes that take place over time in the process of evolution and adaptation in human civilization.

Multiple layers of interoperability interact to allow for easier data transmission, interpretation, and appraisal across different systems. Foundational interoperability allows IT systems to share, receive, and store data (Buchinger et al., 2021, p. 2454). However, foundational interoperability does not necessarily allow such stems to interpret the information they receive. Structural interoperability encompasses the preservation of uniformly transmitted data across different systems through foundational interoperability to ensure that the operational purpose and meaning of the data are preserved and unaltered. In infrastructure, such a level of interoperability allows specialists to interpret infrastructural data stored in different devices. Semantic interoperability allows systems to actively use data that has been exchanged and stored through structural interoperability (Novo & Francesco, 2020, p. 11). It allows infrastructural specialists to make informed decisions and develop efficient facilities and installations that concur with the prevailing demands.
